01 / Definition

What Are Website Design and Development Services?

Website design and development services plan, design, build, launch and maintain a website so it loads quickly, ranks in search and converts visitors into enquiries or sales. A good web design agency treats the site as a sales tool, not a brochure.

Our website projects start with the questions your visitors arrive with, not with a visual style. Wireframes map every template to a job, technical SEO is planned before design begins and copy from our copywriting services team is written alongside the layout, so nothing gets squeezed into boxes at the end.

A website redesign carries a risk most template builders ignore: losing the rankings the old site earned. Every redesign we run includes a URL-by-URL redirect map, and we watch Search Console daily for 30 days after launch.

After launch, the site keeps improving. Care plans cover updates, backups and security, and conversion testing keeps raising the share of visitors who get in touch.

10 / FAQ

Website Services FAQs

These answers cover the questions buyers ask most before they hire a web design agency, including timelines, cost and who owns the site.

How long does it take to build a website?

A typical business website takes 10 to 14 weeks from discovery to launch. A landing page takes 2 to 3 weeks, and a large e-commerce build can run to 20 weeks.

The time splits across six steps: discovery (weeks 1 to 2), sitemap and wireframes (weeks 2 to 4), design (weeks 4 to 7), build (weeks 7 to 11), testing (weeks 11 to 12) and launch with handover (weeks 12 to 14). You sign off each step before the next begins. The two things that most often stretch a timeline are late content and slow feedback, which is why copy is written alongside the design rather than after it.

How much does website design cost?

Website cost depends on the number of templates, the platform, integrations, content volume and whether we write the copy. You get a fixed quote after discovery, so the price is set before the build starts.

A five-page brochure site and a 2,000-product Shopify store sit at very different price points, so a single figure would mislead you. What stays constant is the structure: project billing is split 50/50 between start and launch, quotes are valid for 30 days and anything outside the agreed scope is quoted separately before any work begins.

Which platform should I choose: WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or custom?

The right platform depends on who edits the site and what it needs to do. WordPress suits content-heavy sites, Shopify suits online stores, Webflow suits design-led marketing sites and Next.js or Astro suits sites that need maximum speed or custom features.

We build on all four, so the recommendation follows your needs rather than our habits. WordPress is easy to edit but needs plugins kept up to date. Shopify handles checkout and hosting securely but suits products better than services. Webflow gives marketers visual editing with clean code. A custom build gives the best Core Web Vitals and any integration, but needs developer access after launch.

What should I look for when hiring a web design agency?

Look for a web design agency that plans SEO and content before design, gives you a fixed quote, names a redirect plan for redesigns and hands over full ownership. Portfolios show taste, but those four points decide whether the site earns money.

Ask how the agency protects existing rankings, who writes the copy, which accessibility standard it builds to and what happens after launch. Ask who owns the code, the hosting account and the domain. A good answer to each is specific. Our answers: a URL-by-URL redirect map, in-house copywriters, WCAG 2.2 AA, a care plan with response times and full ownership in your name.

Do you write the website copy?

Yes. Our copywriters write the pages alongside the design, based on customer research and search data, so layouts fit real content rather than placeholder text.

Each page gets a brief covering the visitor's question, the search intent, the proof it needs and the action it asks for. Copy and wireframes are reviewed together, so you see what the page says and how it looks in the same round.

Is SEO included in a website build?

Yes. Every build includes technical SEO setup: metadata, schema, XML sitemaps, clean URLs, internal links and a redirect map for redesigns.

That covers what the site needs to rank from launch day. Ongoing work, such as publishing new content and earning links, sits under our SEO services, which many clients add once the new site is live.

Can you redesign my website without losing rankings?

Yes. We map every old URL to its new home with 301 redirects, keep content that ranks and monitor Search Console daily for 30 days after launch.

Rankings drop after a redesign when URLs change without redirects, when ranking content gets cut or when internal links break. We crawl the old site before design starts, flag the pages that bring organic traffic and carry their content across. We launch at a quiet time and fix any crawl errors inside the monitoring window.

Will I be able to edit the website myself?

Yes. Every site ships with a CMS and training for your team, so you can change pages, prices and posts without a developer.

Training includes a recorded session and a written guide covering the tasks your team will do most often. Components are built so editors can add sections without breaking the layout.

Do you host websites?

We set up hosting in an account registered to your business, with a provider matched to your platform. We can manage it for you under a care plan, but it always stays in your name.

Keeping hosting in your name means you never depend on us to reach your own website. If you move to another developer, you hand over access rather than migrate the site.

What is included in a website care plan?

A care plan covers updates, backups, uptime and security monitoring, and a set number of small changes each month, with agreed response times for anything urgent.

Sites break most often when plugins, themes or frameworks go unpatched. A care plan keeps them current, tests updates before they reach the live site and gives you a named team to call when something goes wrong.

Do you build e-commerce websites?

Yes. We build online stores on Shopify and WooCommerce, including product templates, filters, payment setup and product schema.

E-commerce builds get the same SEO planning as any other site: category pages built around how buyers search, faceted navigation that does not create thousands of duplicate URLs and product markup that helps listings stand out in results.

Do you design landing pages for ads?

Yes. We design and build one landing page per offer, matched to the ad or email that sends the traffic, so visitors land on the thing they clicked for.

Landing pages for our PPC services clients are tested against each other, with the winning headline, form and layout rolled out across campaigns.

Is the website accessible?

Yes. Every site we build targets WCAG 2.2 AA, with keyboard navigation, colour contrast, alt text and form labels tested before launch.

Accessibility helps every visitor, not only people using assistive technology. Clear headings, labelled forms and readable contrast also make pages easier for search engines to understand.

Who owns the website when it is finished?

You own everything: the code, the design files, the content, the domain and the hosting. Leaving us never means losing your website.

Ownership transfers on final payment, and every account is registered to your business from the start, so there is nothing to hand back. Our design services team supplies the source files for every visual asset too.
